About me...
Hello Hayes students and parents! I have been a school counselor in Grand Ledge Public Schools for 20 years, 18 of which have been at the middle school level. I really enjoy working with 7th and 8th graders!
I am a life-long resident of the greater Lansing area. I earned both my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and my Master's Degree in Counseling from Michigan State University. I also live in East Lansing, so I'm a die-hard Spartan fan! GO GREEN!
My husband is a high school science teacher and we have a 16-year-old daughter (and a 1-year-old cat named Luna). In my spare time I like to listen to music, watch movies, shop, build puzzles, attend my daughter's sporting events, watch college basketball and football, and I've just recently discovered a love of pickelball!
My counseling philosophy tends to be primarily cognitive-behavioral, however, my approach with each child will vary depending on his/her skills, needs and personality.

I am excited to be at Hayes Middle school!!
I was lucky enough to join Grand Ledge schools in August of 2019. I very much enjoy working with your children. I have worked in the schools as a counselor for 6 years at all levels from K-12 and before that I worked with youth in treatment centers and crisis centers.
I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and an emphasis in Special Education from Grand Valley State University in 2006. I then obtained my Masters in Counseling from Spring Arbor University in 2014.
I have 2 children a girl (11) and a boy (3) along with our two foster children both boys ages 1 & 2. I enjoy traveling, hiking, sci-fi, fantasy fiction, crafting, and summer activities!
My counseling Philosophy
My approach is that of Person Centered Planning intertwined with Solution Focused Therapy. Empathy, genuineness and unconditional positive regard are the relationships building blocks. I believe all students need a safe and welcoming space where they are free from judgment. What makes this approach so successful is that the interventions for each person changes and it is what is best suited for the needs of that particular student. I believe that students need to be taught coping skills and problems solving skills so they will be able to work through problems on their own and in the future be successful adults.
