Reading and Writing

The students are knee deep in their learning about the Revolutionary War this last trimester of Fourth Grade!

Each student has chosen an event that took place during the Revolutionary War to write about. The students wrote one paragraph about this event and their reaction to the event.

Asking the students to write a single paragraph promotes deep thinking. The students are researching and taking notes about the event. When the writing begins they must sift through the information and include the very most important information to explain their event.

Their reaction to the event is a seperate paragraph.

Next week we will do the same process with a biography about an important figure of the Revolutionary War.

The following week the students will be asked to put themselves into first person mode of someone during the war. They will write a diary entry on what their day was like.

The end product of all of this research and writing is a magazine about the Revolutionary War. The students will include a table of contents, a glosssary, illustrations , photographs and all kinds of extra fun facts.

This is truly an amazing project to end our school year!

I love watching how they have grown in thier writing skills and how excited they are about researching this time period!
