Jr. A Girls
From the Coach:
Our season has begun in overdrive. We had a great turnout for our Volleyball fun night. Thanks to all who came and enjoyed that.
Tryouts had 18 girls come out wanting to play on a volleyball team. That has given us two good sized teams, A and B, where girls will get lots of experience on the court and a chance to contribute to the game and reap those rewards.
Keely Nigh has transitioned from B team coach to Assistant coach of the A team. I welcome her expertise and perspective and am already grateful to be working with her. We have recruited a wonderful B team coach in Jill Pryor and know that she will build into those girls lives and give them skills in volleyball and life off the court as well. Thank you, ladies, for your commitment and energy.
Our Junior A team consists of 3 returning Grade 9 players and 6 newcomers and is characterized by great reaction time. We as coaches plan to hone that asset as the players’ skills increase to give us a jump on our play. Currently we are training 2 new setters and are carefully crafting all players’ main volleyball techniques.
There is great joy in the journey.
Jr. A Boys
From the Coach:
This year has started off extremely well for us as we have had 3 boys from last years team step up and take some leadership. Our tryouts pushed the boys and they continued to work hard as we went into our first team practices. This hard work has been paying off as they continue to improve in each aspect of their skills. This past week we narrowly lost to Linden in our first game and were able to win the B final in our tournament this past weekend. I am really excited for this coming season and the potential that this team has!
