Chess Team

Hi I am DocM, math teacher and Chess Team coach. 

What is chess like?  Harry Potter  Chess on Ceiling

This team is open to students in grades 5-8. Tentatively, practices start Fourth WEDNESDAY in October and will be from 2:30-3:45 in the  PDLC. We meet on Mondays and Wednesdays.

2. Costs, Forms, and Other info:

   • • Parents MUST attend one of two parent meetings and all paperwork and the $25 fee must be paid before a student will be allowed to participate. 

     • Fill out all online Skyward forms and send in $25 activity fee: 

     • $15 or so t-shirt cost for Chess Team

     • $2 cash for the USCF ID number through the Peoria Chess Federation

     • $$ any food or drink purchases as the different events. Also, some places might charge a nominal entry fee for parents, but I am not sure about that. Events generally run from 8:30 am - 4 pm.

     • Attendance at practices and events is NOT mandatory, but is highly encouraged. 

     • Parents MUST join the Remind App and students are encouraged to join. An email will be sent with code.

     • To attend State, our last tournament, you must have participated in at least ONE tournament or have attended practices on a somewhat regular schedule. Coach DocM reserves the right to refuse attendance at State for students who are just not ready.

4. Oct 23 -first day of practice in PDLC from 2:30-3:45. Pick up at 3:50.

5.  All tourney dates are from the Greater Peoria Chess Federation Website and we are NOT going to all offered. However, you can sign your child up and bring them on your own.  https://www.peoriachess.com/tournaments.html

   • • OCT 21ST 2:45 -3:15 Mandatory PARENT MEETING-in the PDLC- 

     • OR

     • Oct 22 Mandatory PARENT MEETING-in the PDLC-AT 7:30 -8PM

     • NOV 9 Morton Invite - BUS-DocM handles ALL registration etc. 

     • NOV 16- IL Franklin School Peoria -BUS-DocM handles ALL registration etc.

     • DEC 7 - GHMS KING OF THE  HILLS TOURNEY-we are hosting this amazing fundraiser and fun tournament! Will need parents helpers w/concessions, etc.

     • DEC 14- Brimfield Invitational - BUS-DocM handles ALL registration etc. 

     • Jan 11 -Riverview - Riverview School  -parents provide own transport to and from-DocM handles registration, etc. 

     • Jan 18 - St. Mary's - Metamora -parents provide own transport to and from-DocM handles registration, etc. 

     • Feb 8 - Mark Bills Classic -GOING AS A TEAM ON BUS-DocM handles registration, etc. 

     • Feb 28-Mar1  IESA State Grades 6-8 - Peoria Civic Center GOING AS A TEAM ON BUS- parents bring kids home
