This week we wrapped up our pirate project with a fun pirate day and treasure hunt. This week we looked at pirate ships and talked about the different features of a pirate ship, building on our language and comprehension. We explored different types of materials and made predictions on whether the materials would be a good material for a pirate ship, whether it would float or sink. We split into investigation groups and tested out the materials in water. We even tried placing the materials in the water at different angles to see if that effected the way an item might float or if it would make it sink. We discussed why an item might sink faster than another and even left some items in the water to see if they would continue to float or get affected by the water itself such as the cardboard. We then went on to taking our new findings of materials that float to create a pirate ship pf our own, testing them out in the water trays. It was so much fun watching them take new knowledge and apply it with excellent reasoning skills.

We have also been learning to count to 20, to identify numerals to 20, counting large groups of items to 20 and practicing our number formations too.

In phonics we learned the trigraphs 'ear' and 'ure'. We have been enjoying a shared reading story called 'The Frog and the coin'.

Next week we begin a new project all about space; the children will discover a crash site on Monday!

This week in English, we have started descriptive writing, using adjectives to describe animals appearance and have then written a full description using full sentences. In phonics, we have covered the digraphs ir, er, and ur. It is amazing to see how confident the children are when applying new sounds in their writing and how they have developed great decoding skills. 

In maths, we have been looking at British money. We have been exploring coins and looking at their shape, size, colour and value. The children have been using money in provision activities to buy items from the toy shop. They were able to order the coins from the smallest value to the greatest value. 

In IPC, we have been looking at Toys and how they have changed over the last 100 years. The children were sorting toys into catergories new toys and old toys and sorted statements to support their choices. In Science, we tested our boats that we designed and created last year to check if they would float or sink. The children were so excited! We discussed the materials used and why some boats sank. The children were applying scientific language in their explanations and had a good understanding of materials and their properties. 

It was lovely to meet you all this week at the parent-teacher meetings ! 

Year 3 have smashed another week, in English they have moved on to 'free-verse' poems. We took a deep dive into the features of a free verse poem like rhyme and rhythm and by the end of the week the children were ready and successful in writing their own. Whereas in Maths they have been mastering adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominators.  In Science, leading on from friction we are now focusing on magnets and how they are used. 

It's been another week of productive learning and GL revision practice, with the children making significant strides in their academic journey. In English, we focused on SPAG and reading comprehension. It was particularly reassuring to see the children taking the initiative to look up the meanings of unfamiliar words, demonstrating their independent learning and problem-solving skills. 

In Maths, we explored how to answer GL-style questions, with the children reading each question, discussing what it was asking them to do, and working through the solutions together. In Science, we delved into the human life cycle, examining what happens at each stage and exploring the various aspects of human development. It's lovely to see the progress the children are making!

A busy week of learning and GL revision practice! This week in English, we our revision for the SPAG section in the GL aswell as comprehension assessments.

In Math, we have been practicing mental maths and looking at Angles. We’ve grasped the concept of different angles and completing our 360s.

As we have finished our topic in science, we have focused on revision this week and consolidating our learning for this year and the previous years to ensure we are ready. 

In humanities we have covered coasts and sand dunes whereas in MSC we are covering South East Asia and historical figures.

A gentle reminder to return the trip letters as soon as possible.

This week we have reviewed our Spanish assessment from last week  in which we discussed about the mistakes and challenges which students were facing during assessments and practice about the spellings , punctuation , articles and listening questions which clear the students doubts and their mistakes which will help them for the upcoming term assessments . Apart from that we played class quiz based on days of the week , numbers , months of the year and pronombres with verb Ser - to be . Gracias for your support .

It's been another busy week for the students in STREAM class. The children in FS learnt about bones and their importance. They also enjoyed their pair drawing activity. Years 1 and 2 accepted the challenge to design and build a strong runway for their marbles using wooden blocks. This week, years 3 through 8 have been busy working in groups and pairs designing dynamic devices, and building and programming fun robots of their choice.
