GPS Newsletter

This week in FS we have been writing about ourselves. Talking about where we live now and what our favourite colours are! In Maths we have been comparing groups of objects and learning to use the language of more and fewer to make comparisons between groups. In science we looked at our families and the roles we have in our own families. We talked about why families are important and had some wonderful answers such as ' so we are not alone', 'because we cannot have a house or go and do things or buy things'. In phonics we have been working on our alliteration and tuning into initial sounds. we have had lots of fun sorting things from our classroom in the same beginning sounds.

This week in Year 1 we have been super busy creating story maps in English and have been learning all about adjectives. We have been describing the different scenes in the story and the bear. In Geography, we were exploring the different landmarks in the UAE and enjoyed learning the song about the seven Emirates.  In maths, we have explored finding one more and one less than a given number and a group of objects. In phonics we've finished phase 2 and have been getting more independent writing CVC words.  This week in Science, we continued our learning on animal groups, looking at amphibians and mammals.

This week has been very exciting for Year 3. We planted our seeds and will be monitoring them over the next couple of weeks. In Maths we have started our new topic of addition and subtraction , they are smashing it so far! Then for English we have started to plan out diary entries in the perspective of one of the main characters in Jack and the beanstalk. The children had lots of fun role playing and pretending to be the Giant from the story!

Year 5 had a fantastic week. In English, the children wrote a diary entry from the BFG's perspective on snatching Sophie. In Maths, we looked at rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100, 1000 and 10,000. In Science, we have explored the lifecycle of a sunflower and described what happened at each stage. The children have been excited to see their sunflower seed growing. In IPC, we explored bullying and identified the different types of bullying. We also discussed the emotions involved with bullying.

Great start to this short week with our spelling tests seeing everyone perform very well while ending with certificates and cultural dress up day! We went onto learning our adverbs and modal verbs and applying them in our writing for English. Maths had us completing our progress tests for content covered within the subject so far. In Science we studied common trees and the features of leafs and identifying their characteristics. During IPC we designed our very own playground which we are looking to build on and create to later couple with a letter to the principal! Lastly within MSC we have started our topic on benevolence, generosity and kindness relating it to real life scenarios.

This week we have done different activity and  worked on some writing skills in KS1 and KS2 also we played Kahoot to improve basics in Spanish . Coming week we will work more on basics by reading , singing ans writing in the class along with differentiated activities . 

Hasta Pronto

The students have been very busy in STREAM class this week. The children in FS had lots of fun in our activity, Up! Up! and Away, while years 1 and 2 designed and made an emergency preparedness kit and learnt about the role of our emergency responders in our community. Years 3 and 4 built their model transportation in groups using recyclable materials. Students in years 5, 7 and 8 were challenged to create their stop-motion animation on expressing emotions using coloured cut-out papers and tablet/mobile.
