Dear Parents
Turtle Sanctuary for FS this week- they were so excited and came back with lots to say.
Not everyday I get asked to be a Dragon, but this week ended with me being deciding on whose product to invest in. The Dragon's Den was set up and I received amazing pitches from Year 3 for their special chocolate. They had marketing strategies, slogans and even sample products - it was impressive! Well done to all!
We are busy with assessments this week in all core subjects just to see how we are getting on. So far the data shows that your children are progressing nicely (but I don't need data to see that!).
It's been a health check-up week this week. Our doctor looked everyone over to assess general health at the beginning of the week and the DHA came to school on Friday to conduct eye tests. If there are any concerns or suggested follow-up appointments to be made the school will send an email directly to you on their behalf.
Parent-teacher meetings are being held next week. THERE WILL BE NO CLUBS ON THURSDAY and we will finish 2.40pm. I know that some of you are requesting alternative days and times and I have left it up to the teachers to schedule the appointments. They are, however, under strict instructions not to miss any lessons - I am sure you can understand why. These meetings are not intended to last more than 10 to 15 minutes, but if you do need longer then please arrange another time to meet up with the teacher.
This month's value is Principles and we will be looking to see what that means and famous people that can be described as "principled" We encourage you to speak about the meaning with your children.
We will be having the school inspection at any time between now and before the start of Ramadan. I will let you all know as soon as I know the dates. It is usual for the inspectors to speak to some parents to get their feedback. It is essential that all children attend school on time and in full uniform. Thank you for your support.

Thursday 8th February - Parent-Teacher meetings (please arrange with your teacher). We will try to accommodate your request but please note that the school will finish normal time for the children.

Dear Parents,
This Months value we are learning is PRINCIPLES, I thought of narrating some stories for kids to understand principles better. So, to start with I will say a story to explain the principle "Wishing ill on others will always backfire! "
There once lived a mouse and a frog who were good friends. The frog would hop out of the pond every morning to go meet the mouse who lived in a hole inside a tree. Soon, the frog grew hostile towards the mouse since the mouse never made an effort to come to visit him.
The frog hatches a plan to punish the mouse. One sunny morning, while visiting the mouse the frog ties one end of a string to his leg and the other end to the mouse’s tail. He bids goodbye to the mouse, hops away, and jumps into the pond dragging the poor mouse with him. Unable to free himself, the mouse drowns and dies. The mouse’s body floats on top of the water while the frog laughs maniacally.
A passing hawk notices the floating mouse, swoops down and picks up the mouse. It is only when the hawk picks up the mouse does the frog realize that he is still tied to the mouse by the string and watches in fear as he is dragged away too. The frog fails to escape the hawk and soon dies.
Moral of the story: In your quest to dig a deep pit for your enemy, you might fall into it yourself.

What we've done
We had a fantastic week! The children had a wonderful time visiting the turtle sanctuary in Dubai and we were so impressed with how many of the questions they were able to answer based upon the work and research they have done so far in their project. We were lucky enough to meet 2 green turtles and a very large hawksbill turtle too. This week we have be looking at our impact on the planet and how our rubbish is polluting our oceans. The children were quite shocked to discover how much of a mess the oceans really are and the affect it has on the ocean wildlife. We have been talking about beach clean ups and ensuring we take care with our rubbish when we are out and about. Next week we will look at recycling and the various ways in which we can support our community in Dubai to keep our waters clean.

Year 1 have had another busy week of learning. In maths we have finished our topic of addition and subtraction within 20. The children have been using various methods to find the answer including number lines, crossing out and using doubles.
In English, we have been writing letters to the woodcutter on behalf of the bad wolf as well as writing questions for the woodcutter to ask the wolf. The children have been working so hard to complete their tasks and have been engaged in lots of fun provision activities. It's great to see how independent the children are becoming!
In science, we finished our topic of seasons by comparing the weather in the UK with the weather in the UAE.
This weeks star of the week goes to Joud for his excellent efforts in phonics and reading extra books every evening on monster phonics! Well done Joud! ⭐️
Finally, I am so impressed with all the amazing habitats completed for the home project. They were very creative and the children were so proud to present them to their peers. Well done everyone.
Year 2
Year 2 have had a busy week this week with assessments. In English we have been continuing to develop our reading skills through reading comprehensions and presentaions on projects. In maths we have been working on comparing amounts of money and making the same amount. In humanities, we are continuing to learn about significant explorers and this week the children have been learning about the achievements of Neil Armstrong. In IPC the children enjoyed creating their own compass. The children were excited to learn about recycling this week in science and sort different objects out into recycling bins.

Another Fantastic week completed by year 3! This week we carried on exploring rocks and paleontologists in Science. In maths we re-visited multiplication and division and started comparing measurements. For English the children did an amazing job for our very own 'Al Ghaf Dragon's Den' where they performed their pitches and showcased their innovated product 'Choco Goo' in front of our very own judge Ms.Jan . A big congratulations to our winner Mariam!

Another successful week of learning in Year 4!
This week in Maths, we have solidified our learning of multiplication and division of 2 and 3-digit numbers. The students became more confident in the column method for multiplying and dividing bigger numbers.
In English, we have begun to look at story recounts for the myth of Romulus and Remus. Students were able to identify what a recount and linked this to retelling the story of Romulus and Remus in their own words. Later in the week, we looked at newspaper reports in more detail by cutting up the paragraphs and constructing them back together. This helped us identify key features before we started to plan our own report.
In Science we continued the topic of digestive system. We looked at how the digestive system works and what happens when we eat food. We labelled parts of the digestive system and understood some key features of these body parts.
In the latter part of the week, we conducted our half term assessments. It is fantastic to see how much progress the boys have made, and I am extremely proud of their efforts!

What we've done
It has been an exciting week of learning in Year 5! In English, we are nearing the end of 'The Pearl Diver'. We continued exploring the meanings of new words and answering different types of questions.
In Mathematics, we wrapped up our multiplication and division topic, focusing on solving division word problems using the short division method. In Science, we extended our investigation into water resistance and the children had the opportunity to create and test their paper boats. They had so much fun moving their boat in the water but were competitive.
In MSC, we studied landforms and learned about how climate impacts people. Overall, it has been a great week.
Please note that the ocean-themed shoebox is due by Wednesday, 7th February 2024. I am looking forward to seeing them.

What we've done
We started the week with movement Monday and followed with our reading buddies on Thursday and Fruity Fridays! Year 7 and 8 have started Dystopian Fiction in English. We are reading extracts from the Hunger Games novels to get a better understanding of what a dystopian world really is. By the end of this topic, we hope to be able to write our own essay based on a dystopian world. In Science, along with revision for our test, we are now learning about forces and the different types of forces that we encounter each day in year 7. We are starting Place Value and Integers up to 1 billion in Math for year 7. In addition we have completed our tests in English, Math, Science and MSC.

This week we did lot of activities and new topics in Spanish KS 1 learn about Days of the week , Colours , types of food and KS 2 we learned about types of pronombres (pronouns) in Spansh , types of jobs , dirrections in Spanish with worksheets and kahoot .

What we've done
It's a fun week for everyone in our STREAM class in GPS! The children in FS created their tricky art that gives the viewer the impression of movement and depth. Years 1 and 2 were all busy finalising their habitat models. This week, years 3 and 4 have been busy finishing their fossil models and cave paintings. Year 5 was busy doing research on weather and climates. Years 7 and 8 continue to work on their global warming model project.
