Doctopus & Goobric

Doctopus is a Google Sheets Add-on

Please note! You will need to have a classroom and assignment already setup to use with Doctopus and Goobric!

Doctopus gives teachers the ability to mass-copy (from a starter template), share, monitor student progress, and manage grading and feedback for student projects in Google Drive. (Taken from Doctopus Overview Page)

Unlike apps or extensions, Doctopus is installed via Google Sheets as an Add-On. Rather than visiting the Google Chrome store to install the addition, the Add-Ons manager is used from within Google Sheets. As Doctopus is a very widely used add-on, it is frequently at the top of the page for add-ons.

Short and sweet installation:

1. Open a new Google Sheets
2. Click Add-Ons along the top ribbon
3. Click Get Add-Ons
4. Search for Doctopus
5. Click +Free to install it. Wait a moment for it to install and prompt for setup. If it does not launch automatically, go back to the Add-Ons drop down menu, locate Doctopus, and launch it manually.

Before you can use Goobric (or even install it) you will need to go through setup for Doctopus. After installing Doctopus (see above), you will be prompted to select which way you would like to use it.

1. From the "Select mode" drop down, you will choose "Ingest a Google Classroom Assignment"
2. The lower half of the sidebar will change. Choose the class you want to ingest an assignment from on the new drop down menu.
3. Select the assignment from the --Select Assignment drop down menu that is now visible.
4. Check or uncheck the option to only ingest assignments that have been turned in.
5. Click ingest assignment. Depending on the number of docs turned in for this assignment, the delay to process all of it can take up to several minutes. Please be patient!
6. Once it has completed the ingestion, you should arrive at a screen with a large table of data. We won't interacting with any of this data just yet. First, we have to connect the rubric we will build.

The most effective way to install Goobric is via Doctopus, within a Google Sheet. This will allow the extension to prompt you for permissions to install and utilize certains aspects of your account.

The first time you install Goobric via Doctopus, you will be prompted to authorize it. Please click allow and follow the prompts given by the program. It will not work otherwise!
