2020-2021 Parent Involvment Policy and Compact
Many of our students are learning English as a second language. These students are supported by our English Learner program, which provides specialized instruction for children at all levels.
The English Learners Advisory Committee is a group of English Learner parents and community members who advise and assist our school in making important decisions related to services for English Learners. Anyone can join ELAC, whether you have a student in our EL program or not. All you have to do is to come to our meetings!
A parent is a child's first teacher, and continued parental support is key to that child's success. Academic support takes many forms, and doesn't have to be limited to homework sessions at the kitchen table. Below are lists of tips by grade level, compiled from our teachers' suggestions:
Individualized lessons in reading( and in math!). Kids use this program at school, and home use will improve progress! Use your child’s Clever login (username: child’s school email address; password: child’s birthday MMDDYYYY -- if you need help, ask the teacher or the School Community Coordinator).
Online resource from Scholastic books. A selection of books for young readers, many with a read-along option. Includes a variety of interests. Create your own login.
Great resource! Mostly aimed at K-3, some 4th. Celebrities read books out loud on YouTube. Free, no login.
