Student Educational Equity Development (SEED) Survey

The Student Educational Equity Development (SEED) Survey gathers information about the educational experiences of students in Oregon. This information helps the Oregon Department of Education (ODE), districts, and schools identify students’ needs, potential inequalities experienced by students, and potential levers for addressing those inequalities to improve student outcomes.

The SEED Survey is a self-report questionnaire that is administered to students statewide, in grades 3-11. The survey covers three overarching categories of educational experiences:

• Access to resources

• Connection to school

• Academic opportunities

Within each category, the SEED Survey delves into specific domains. For example, within the category of academic opportunities there are items that ask about students’ exposure to a “well-rounded education” and their “opportunities to learn,” among others. The domains included on the SEED Survey vary by grade level. A full list of survey items is available online.
