To our friends and family at Gerlinger Steel,
As one year closes, and a new one begins, we’ve chosen to reflect upon the road travelled and the road that lies ahead.
2025 contained an event that has now only happened three times in the history of this company: the passing of the last Gerlinger man of a generation. Fred shepherded this company for over 30 years as President and CEO, and he worked for the company for 55 years. His values that he wished to instill were a sense of generosity, displayed as compassion and a desire to help others. He wanted to always act with integrity, and to follow through on commitments. He cared not only for customers and the community, but for those who worked for him. Our intention is to continue that legacy.
2025 was a modest year for Gerlinger Steel’s performance. We have the people, equipment, and facilities to be dominant, but we are also very good at getting in our own way with inefficiencies. These inefficiencies range from damaged and lost material, to orders written with incomplete or confusing information, to computer system problems resulting in work not being able to be done. This year as we enter the second half of the decade, we aim to be ambitious. We will be focusing on optimizing processes. Included in that will be storage automations, computers on the warehouse and production floor, and scheduling software for processing.
2026 will be a better year. Training will take a stronger focus, as will process optimization, and consistently organized communication. One of the initiatives we are actively working on is to develop departmental goals. Achieving these goals will allow us to more accurately measure the impact each department’s performance has on the whole, and allow us to provide more regular and measurable bonuses. The better the performance of the company, the greater the rewards that can be distributed. Great effort produces great results.
Thank you for helping us continue to grow this company and help provide for all of our families. As Fred would have said: Be sure to keep your loads secured, your tires inflated, the shiny side up, and the greasy side down.
The Gerlinger Family
