Program Overview
The Eagle Engineering Ambassadors (EEA) program is a mentorship based program involving Georgia Southern University's Armstrong Campus and local high schools. The program will expose a diverse group of high school students to engineering concepts and careers through mini engineering projects within a mentoring framework. The program will reinforce and strengthen student STEM knowledge and develop the next generation of NASA scientists, technicians, engineers and mathematicians.
Who?
High schools in the greater Savannah area including Richmond Hill, Pooler, Effingham County, Bulloch County can serve as the host sites
Each high school can have a team of 4-6 students
Each high school team should have a teacher to serve as a mentor
Each high school team will be paired with an Eagle Engineering Ambassador
Georgia Southern Engineering Students will serve as the Eagle Engineering Ambassadors
Georgia Southern Engineering Faculty, Armstrong Campus Dr. Priya Goeser and Dr. Thomas Murphy are the program directors
Where?
Teams will meet at the high schools
When?
October 3, 2022 - December 16, 2022 (Fall 2022)
Dates for Spring 2023: January 23, 2023 - April 28, 2023 (start date is a rolling one)
2-3 visits per project
Each high school team can work with their teacher and EEA to determine best times to meet (during or after school)
What?
Mini engineering projects which highlight topics of NASA interest
robotics using lego mindstorms, Sphero BOLTs and Arduino Zumos
CAD applications including 3D printing
End product will be showcased via video on a YouTube Channel created by the team
How?
This project is funded by the Georgia Space Grant Consortium, Gulfstream and Georgia Southern University's Department of Mechanical Engineering.
