This Privacy Policy applies to the "Library Audio Guard" Chrome extension ("the Extension"), developed and maintained by the IT department of the Georgia Public Library Service (GPLS). The Extension is designed to automatically mute built-in speakers on managed Chrome devices and enable audio only when headphones or permitted external audio devices are connected.
The Extension does not collect, track, or intercept any personal information, sensitive user data, or web browsing activity. The Extension operates entirely locally on your device to query the hardware state of the active audio output device.
All data handling occurs locally on the user's machine. The Extension requests the system.audio permission to detect the type of active audio output device (e.g., internal speakers, HDMI, headphones) and programmatically mutes or unmutes the system output based on internal library policies. It requests the notifications permission solely to generate a local alert prompting the user to plug in headphones. No data is transmitted to external servers or remote APIs.
The Extension does not store any user data, personal information, or device state history. No local or cloud storage mechanisms are utilized to retain user profiles or usage logs.
Because the Extension does not collect or store any data, absolutely no user data is shared, sold, transferred, or disclosed to any third parties, advertising platforms, or external organizations.
The use of information received from Chrome APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. The Extension only accesses local device hardware states to provide its single, core functionality of restricting audio output.
This Extension is intended exclusively for internal use on managed workspace and Chrome devices operating under the Georgia Public Library Service umbrella.
If you have any questions or concerns about this Privacy Policy or the Extension's behavior, please contact the Georgia Public Library Service IT department by submitting a ticket at help.georgialibraries.org.
