Happy BHM Hoyas! Please enjoy what the Blaxa has been creating in in 2024!
The Blaxa is born from the spirit of our collective dissatisfaction with the portrayal of Black students by campus media and forged in the fires of our silences. For too long the Black experience at Georgetown has been portrayed as monolithic, devoid of nuance and depth. The range of our experiences, both within the US and across the diaspora have been lumped together, creating a distorted image of our lives. With the inception of The Blaxa, we as members of Georgetown’s Black student body hope to revitalize discussion of our identities, our experiences, and our hopes for the future of our existence at Georgetown and beyond.
Read poems submitted by the Blaxa editorial team to celebrate our culture, roots, and love that exists within the disapora.
OUR MISSION
The Blaxa serves as a space for all Black students at Georgetown to authentically and unapologetically express themselves. An initiative that will not only be extremely beneficial in the empowerment of aspiring Black journalists, Black creatives, and Black entrepreneurs - but to the entire student body & local D.C area.
The Blaxa was founded by: Musa Bassey COL ‘19, Julia Hyacinthe NHS ‘19, Serac McClenton COL ‘19, and Bryce Badger MSB’21.
