Ms. Sylvia Trujillo

Sylvia J. Trujillo is a Senior Washington Counsel with the American Medical Association’s (AMA) Government Advocacy Group in Washington D.C. Her focus for the past ten years has been on highly disruptive innovations that have the promise to improve health and medical practice in the life science and digital medicine arenas. She provides counsel to the AMA’s congressional and regulatory advocacy staff and is a core member of multi-disciplinary teams that advise several physician leadership councils and committees. She contributes extensively to the AMA’s Council on Legislation, the Digital Medicine Payment Advisory Group, (DMPAG), and the Quarterly Digital Medicine National Medical Specialty Society Meeting. The DMPAG is comprised of physician experts nationally recognized for advancing groundbreaking clinical delivery modalities leveraging new technologies. The DMPAG also includes national experts in coding, valuation, and coverage. Sylvia provides legislative and regulatory legal analysis on health care and life science issues such as genetics/genomics, augmented intelligence (often referred to as artificial intelligence), and a cross-section of Food and Drug Administration (FDA) drugs, biologicals and medical device regulation and safety issues. Prior to the AMA, Sylvia served in the Litigation Branch of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), Office of the General Counsel, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Division in the Washington D.C. office. She also completed a two year stint as an Assistant Regional Counsel for HHS. Sylvia earned her J.D. from University of California at Berkeley School of Law, her M.P.P from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, and her undergraduate degree from Bryn Mawr College, cum laude.
