GWIA Hosts its Second Ambassador Dinner with Ambassador (ret.) Piper Campbell

On April 9, GWIA hosted the Second Ambassador Dinner with Ambassador (ret.) Piper Campbell, former Ambassador to Mongolia. Campbell, who was joined by her daughter, spoke candidly about work-life balance in foreign service. She also advised on the next steps and how to prepare best to pursue a career as an FSO.

The Ambassador Dinner Series brings together small groups of current students, alumni, and career diplomats, providing a space for women in the Georgetown community to explore careers in foreign service and international affairs through shared meals and insightful discussions.

Ambassador Campbell

Ambassador Campbell served as the Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Ulaanbaatar from 2012 to 2015. In this role, she supported negotiations on the development of Mongolia’s extractive industries and the agreement on a $350 million U.S.-Mongolia Millennium Challenge Compact. Additionally, she served as Consul General in Basrah, Iraq, from 2011 to 2012, during the U.S. military withdrawal. Piper Campbell retired from the State Department in April 2019 with the rank of Minister Counselor after a distinguished, 30-year diplomatic career.

Ambassador Campbell is the Chair of the American University Department of Foreign Policy and Global Security (FPGS). She was Administrative Director of SIS's Foreign Policy (USFP) and Global Governance (GGPS) graduate programs before becoming inaugural chair of FPGS. Campbell also has taught national security strategy at the National Defense University’s National War College.

Ambassador Campbell received her BSFS from Georgetown University and MPA from the Harvard Kennedy School.
