Art, Music, Reading, Writing
In this expedition, students learned about poetry and poets. From what they learned they wrote a class song. Below you can read about their process of learning and listen to their songs.
The Process
Students began the poetry unit reading "Love That Dog" and completing case studies of traditional and modern poets. Students focused on what happened in the book and how the characters felt about it.
Students learned about the elements of poetry, which include rhythm, stanzas, alliterations, similes and metaphors, rhyme, meter, imagery, syllable count, and hyperboles.
To create their final product, a song written by the class, students journeyed through a professional process.
Selecting a beat to use for the song
Identifying the main idea and theme of the song
Writing the lyrics
Proofreading and critiquing the lyrics before completing a final draft
Taking multiple photographs for album art and voting for the photo to be used for the album
Practicing singing the song in music class
Working with stop action photography in art class
Receiving inspiration and feedback from experts
Recording the songs with professional recording equipment
The Final Product
Each 4th grade class wrote their own song. Listen and enjoy one below.
