Week Twenty Five - February 18th 2022
Dear Parents,
I hope that you are well.
Wellbeing is a focus at GIS and I am delighted that our culture of care has been recognized by the KHDA. We have been invited to feature in a KHDA wellbeing video because, in the words of Ms Qamaria from KHDA, ‘You have always been very passionate and dedicated to creating a nurturing school’. This is high praise and I would like to thank all our staff, students and supportive parents for valuing a holistic, caring and personalized education for our students. Wellbeing initiatives are excellent, yet it is the day-to-day environment and classroom climate that count for so much, with risk-taking, student voice and skills for life at the forefront.
I enjoyed meeting potential parents on Thursday at another ‘Meet the Principal’ online event. It was a wonderful opportunity to explain the benefits of an IB education at an exciting international school with a supportive community. The school is benefiting from strong testimonials and I am grateful to our parents for that. If any current parents would like to meet me, simply contact Ms. Atal on s.atal_gis@gemsedu.com. It would be a pleasure to welcome you.
GIS student Om Nambiar (G11) has just won a Hotel Management competition against twenty other students from across Dubai, earning himself a week’s all expenses paid summer school in Marbella, Spain. It was Ms. Malin who encouraged Om to participate and we are grateful to her for always thinking of our students and providing opportunities for them.
Finally, my thanks to all staff in Primary School who supported the trips during Week Without Walls. A lot of fun was had by the students and we shall, as usual, reflect on what went well and any improvements for next year.
Kind regards and have a good weekend,
Simon Herbert

Music Hub offers private instrument lessons on GIS campus. These are offered at a cost of 1500aed (including VAT) per term.
Students are placed on a rotating timetable so that the lesson is on the same day each week but the time of the lessons changes. This is to ensure that students do not miss the same part of the same curriculum lesson each week.
Please visit www.esm.ae/login to register.
(Instruments you can learn: piano, guitar, woodwind instruments, voice, and more!)
