Week Three - September 15th, 2023
Dear Parents,
I hope that you are well.
More events have taken place this week, organized by both Primary and Secondary Schools. Tuesday night saw a Back-to-School Evening offered to Primary parents and on Friday this week and last week, our Secondary families enjoyed ‘Meet and Greet’ events, which was a chance to meet other families in the same grade, homeroom teachers, and sample delicious food from many cultures and cuisines!
GIS educators and also our families hope that students will take responsibility and become accountable, through formal or informal leadership opportunities. There are many chances to try leadership roles and this week saw the Primary Student Leadership Elections. I would like to offer congratulations to those who were successful and a commendation to all those who put themselves forward. It takes courage to do so and I urge all to keep trying – your time will come.
Ms Meena, our University Guidance Counsellor, invited more universities to visit this week, and it was pleasing to see students meeting delegates from Kansas State University. Renowned Hospitality Schools, Les Roches and Glion, also visited. Next week, I am meeting a representative from the American University of Beirut. We shall continue to engage with a broad range of establishments, to support your children.
Finally, thank you to the parents who have answered the timings survey. I would like to clarify that this is one of several measures planned. GIS leadership will continue to investigate all avenues and will work with RTA, Emaar and GEMS to ensure we find the best way forward. We are placing as much pressure as possible. You will also have received a letter from the Chief Operating Officer at GEMS Education, Mr Zafar. I shall view the survey results on Monday, and the next stage, if numbers suffice, is to approach KHDA for approval. If approved, I will then update you on next steps.
Kind regards,
Save the date to celebrate this big milestone with GIS! More details will follow soon.
Hello and welcome to another school year. As our school continues to grow, we are hoping the Country Ambassador Program will also!
The Country Ambassador program was launched in 2021 with the intention of helping connect families with their motherland tongue and country. Small community sub groups have been created to help integrate new families from these specific countries as they enroll at GIS. We encourage you to join your country group via the QR code.
Although as a whole, we are one big family, it’s always nice to connect with those from our country. Ultimately, the goal is to have at least ONE representative for each country.
If you see that your country or ambassador is not listed and you are interested in representing your country, please reach out to us via email at gispa@gemsisak.com
Please see below the current Slices menu. This will be updated in the newseltter every 4 weeks.
There is also information regarding PYP Classroom Delivery Service. For any queries on Slices, please call or WhatsApp Kervin from Slices on 050 504 5908
Kind reminder to ensure students accounts have enough credit loaded so they do not face issues purchasing food.
