Creating Learning Opportunities and a Rich English Environment to Nurture Confident and Competent English Learners

English opens doors for students. Confidence, interest and practice are the keys to mastering a language well. To help students gradually develop their confidence and competence in English, we create opportunities for students to learn English inside and outside the classroom.

Cater for learner diversity

We cater to students’ diverse learning needs in English. Through theme-based, tailored-made materials, students can learn English systematically through scaffolding and specially-designed activities.

Integrate IT in English language teaching

With different types of IT support and a range of learning apps, we can create opportunities for students to engage in the learning process. We have designed various types of e-learning materials for students so that they can learn at their own pace and even challenge themselves outside the classroom.

English remedial and enrichment programs

Different English remedial and enrichment programs are launched which are tailored to students’ learning needs.

English campus

We surround the students with visual examples of the English language on campus to help them learn English imperceptibly. All classroom doors are decorated with adjectives about the qualities students should possess. There are also posters with English classroom language and some English daily language expressions in each classroom.

Optimise students’ opportunities for learning and using English

Speaking classes

The NET teacher teaches all speaking classes. There are small English speaking groups. Students can therefore have more interactions with teachers and their peers.

Learn phonics

Phonics is taught in S1 and S2 by the NET teacher. Some vocabulary items from the Maths and Science syllabuses are also incorporated into the phonics materials in order to further facilitate students’ learning in subjects conducted in English.

Small class teaching

Small class teaching and co-teaching are conducted in different forms in order to give students more individual learning support and feedback.

English activities at school

Through various regular fun English activities, students can also practise English, even with English speakers from different cultural backgrounds, and experience the joy of learning English.

More exposure to English

Apart from school activities, students participated in different external English programs such as Summer Virtual Program with Boston University, AFS exchange program, Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival, Pen Pal programs with schools in New Zealand.
