Move on when Ready (MOWR)



The Move on When Ready (MOWR) program allows students to take college classes while in high school (at no cost to the high school student) to earn college credit plus high school credit and get exposure to rigor of college. Move on When Ready helps student get a “jump start” on postsecondary education, an advantage for students who want to get a head start on a college degree with tuition savings.


  • Sign an advisement form with high school counselor
  • May attend more than 1 postsecondary institution at a time and receive awards at both
  • Meet satisfactory academic progress as defined by the eligible Postsecondary Institution.
  • May participate for 3 semesters per academic year
  • No limit to how many terms a student may participate
  • Will not count against the student’s HOPE hour cap
  • Can be denied participation at any time for violation of secondary or postsecondary rules

Eligible High School Students

  • All students attending public or private high schools in Georgia
  • Must be approved and classified as eligible by the high school
  • 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grades
  • No residency or citizenship requirement
  • Meet admissions requirements at postsecondary institution
  • Must not have already received a high school diploma
  • Be enrolled in courses in approved MOWR Course Directory

Ask a Gainesville High School Counselor about the transportation option available for students who participate at local Lanier Technical College and University of North Georgia classes.

Students can take college courses through any Georgia college. Lanier Technical College and the University of North Georgia are local schools who work closely with Gainesville City Schools in placement of students. However, if a student wants to enroll in a different Georgia school, please contact your high school counselor to learn more.

  • 27 Core Classes available at Lanier Technical College that transfer to four year universities in Georgia!
  • Earn both college AND high school credit
  • MOWR degree level courses taken through Lanier Technical College meets Academic Rigor Requirements and are given a weight of 0.5
  • Courses available on GHS campus AND on college campus in Oakwood!
  • Funding to cover all tuition, textbooks, and mandatory fees are COVERED!
