About
In 1997, the Gowanda stage was transported to the banks of the Mississippi River for the production of Tom Sawyer. This classic American tale of adventure and mischief allowed our students to explore the timeless world of Mark Twain. From whitewashing fences to exploring caves, the cast captured the youthful spirit and rebellion of Tom, Huck, and their friends, bringing a sense of nostalgic wonder to the community.
The production was a fantastic display of Creativity, particularly in the rustic set designs and period-specific costumes that recreated mid-19th-century Missouri. The success of the show relied on the Collaboration of a large ensemble, as they mastered the folk-inspired musical numbers and the playful, high-energy dialogue. It was a spirited performance that highlighted the storytelling ability and Panther Pride of our drama students in the late 90s. 💙
