About
In 1980, the Gowanda stage turned into a lush, tropical wilderness for our very first recorded production of The Jungle Book. This performance holds a legendary place in our history, appearing nearly a decade before the 1989 version and a quarter-century before the 2005 "Kids" edition. It was a bold, imaginative start to the decade, bringing the "Law of the Jungle" to the community through a dedicated cast of students who portrayed the iconic animals of Rudyard Kipling’s world.
This production was a testament to Creativity and Collaboration in its purest form. Without modern materials, the students and staff relied on raw theatricality and inventive physical movement to bring Mowgli, Baloo, and Shere Khan to life. It represents the very roots of our musical theater family tree, showcasing the early spark of Panther Pride that has grown into the massive tradition we celebrate today. 💙
