About
In 1979, the Gowanda stage closed out the seventies with a production of Sleeping Beauty that was truly ahead of its time. Seven years before the 1986 revival, this original performance brought the quintessential struggle between light and dark to the community. Our students donned the roles of courageous princes, elegant fairies, and the formidable Maleficent, creating a world of spinning wheels and "happily ever afters" that captivated the audience and set a high bar for the decade to come.
This production was a milestone of Creativity, utilizing the theatrical techniques of the late 70s to create the illusion of magic and a hundred-year sleep. It required immense Collaboration across the department, from the vocalists mastering the classic score to the stagehands managing the intricate transitions of the castle. It was a royal achievement that solidified the Panther Pride of the era and proved that Gowanda was a place where fairy tales truly come to life. 💙
