About
In 1977, the Gowanda stage featured a unique and charming production: The Boy Who Stayed in Bed. This imaginative show explored the world of a young protagonist who discovers that the boundaries between reality and dreams become blurred when you refuse to get up! It was a whimsical look at childhood, laziness, and the power of the imagination, offering a quirky departure from the more traditional fairy tales of the era.
The production was a masterclass in Creativity, particularly in how the "bedroom" set had to transform to accommodate the various dreamlike characters and scenarios that visited the boy. It required tight Collaboration between the lead actor and the ensemble to maintain the comedic timing and the "dream-logic" of the script. As one of our earliest recorded performances, it highlights the adventurous spirit and Panther Pride that has always been at the core of the Gowanda drama department. 💙
