In this section you will find all information about how to take care of your MacBook.

General Rules for Taking Care of the MacBook

  1. Laptops should not be used or stored near pets, water or other liquid, food, and potential weather hazards.
  2. Laptops should not be used with the power cord plugged in when the cord may be a tripping hazard.
  3. Laptops must remain free of any writing, drawing, stickers, labels, etc.
  4. Objects should never be placed on top of laptops.
  5. Never swap or share your computer. You are responsible for your assigned computer.
  6. Computers are NOT to be taken inside a locker room.
  7. Laptops should only be used while they are on a flat and stable surface.
  8. Do not over stuff the computer bag; extreme pressure on the computer can cause permanent damage to the screen and other components.
  9. Never open the laptop by pushing on the screen.
  10. Never pick up the laptop with the screen open.

Charging Cable Care

  1. Cords, cables, removable storage devices must be inserted carefully into the laptop.
  2. When done charging you should wrap the cables up and put them back in the MacBook bag.

Proper Care Based on the Temperature

1. Do not leave in extreme heat or cold, this includes your car.

2. Do not leave it out in the rain or snow.

Taking Care of the Screen

  1. The laptop screen can be damaged if subjected to heavy objects, rough treatment, some cleaning solvents, other liquids, etc. The screens are particularly sensitive to damage from EXCESSIVE pressure.
  2. Do not put pressure on the top of a laptop when it is closed.
  3. Do not store a laptop with the screen open (lid up).
  4. Do not place anything on the outside that will press against the cover.
  5. Make sure there is nothing on the keyboard before closing the lid (e.g. pens, pencils, etc.).
  6. Only clean the screen with soft, dry microfiber cloth or anti-static cloth.

Asset Code Tag

1. All laptops and bags will be labeled with a G-C CSC asset code sticker. These stickers may NOT be modified or tampered with in any way.

2. Students may be charged up to the full replacement cost of a laptop for tampering a G-C CSC asset code sticker or turning in a computer and/or bag without an G-C CSC asset code sticker.

Insurance

1. Students are encouraged to purchase MacBook insurance. In the following form, details about what the insurance covers and how it works is included.

2. If your MacBook gets damaged in any way IMMEDIATELY go to the help desk and notify them.
