Grading Policy

Grading Policy

In my classroom, students are valued for their individual ideas, creativity, and engagement above all else. It is my belief as an educator that students should be active participants in their own education and I expect my students to come to class curious and ready-to-learn each day. This belief is factored into my grading rubrics for each assignment to ensure that students who remain curious are fostered in an environment that helps promote their success in and out of the classroom.

Major Grades - 60%

Minor Grades - 30%

Homework - 10%*

- Homework

* Homework is NOT work you did not complete in class due to time constraints - that is still considered classwork

Late Work:

Late work will only be accepted within a school week of it's original due date and will have 10 points deducted each day it is late. Any work submitted later than this will receive a 0.

Re-Testing:

Formal assessments can cause many students great anxiety and, because of this, it is my policy that students, after reviewing their initial grade, may choose to retake any assessment they feel they could improve on, provided they complete two (2) remediation activities to prove that they have committed themselves to mastering the material. Students must fill out a "Request to Retest" form. The option to retake assessments is only offered once per assessment, and must be done within the grading quarter.

Extra Credit:

I do not give extra credit assignments to students for any reason.

Tutoring:

Tutoring is by appointment only from 3:30p-5p Monday and Thursday. Students who wish to stay for tutoring must provide at least 48 hours notice of their intent and must have a written note from a parent/guardian permitting them to stay.

Plagiarism:

Plagiarism is the act of copying information from a book, magazine, webpage, video, or the work of another person without referencing the source from which the information was obtained. This may include copying information directly from a text/video or paraphrasing the information. All work will be run through a plagiarism checker to authenticate its originality prior to grading. Any work found to be plagiarized will receive an automatic 0 in the gradebook and will result in a contact home. Repeated acts of plagiarism will be subject to disciplinary referral.
