Power of Ten

The Plan

For our school’s fundraising campaign this year, instead of a typical fundraiser where students sell merchandise from a catalog and then deliver it, we are going to try soliciting donations. It’s easier for you, there is no merchandise to pick up and deliver, 100% of the money goes towards the kids, and we can offer better rewards for students who participate. If all BSMS students get just one $10 donation, we will raise $4,230!

How It Works

Students simply ask friends and family to make a donation to our school. Checks may be written to “Butner-Stem Middle School PTO”. Students should fill out the chart on the back of this paper as they collect donations. Donations must be turned in to the office by Nov 22nd.

Rewards For Students

  • Students who turn in at least $10 will get a ticket to the Student-Faculty Dodgeball Game.
  • Students who turn in at least $30 will receive a six pound bag of Gummi Bears and an entry in a raffle to participate in the Dodgeball game.
  • Students who turn in at least $60 will receive a free BSMS t-shirt.
  • Students who turn in at least $100 will also get to go on a field trip during school to the IMAX theater.
  • The three students that collect the most donations from each grade level will get to participate in the Student-Faculty Dodgeball Game.

Why Are We Doing This? Doesn’t The School Receive Funding?

This year, the state and district provided us with $7,000 for instructional materials. We use this money for paper, computers, pencils, markers, copies, manipulatives, and other classroom supplies. It sounds like a lot, but doesn’t go as far as we need it to meet our students’ needs.

At BSMS, our students’ greatest area of need is in math. Last year we provided IXL, an interactive learning program for each of our students. Students benefitted from using that program both in class and at home, and we believe that the program had a direct impact on our math EOG scores. Additionally, IXL provides teachers with current information about student learning and allows students to practice skills targeted to their individual needs. A year-long subscription all three grade levels costs $2,856.

Providing the best possible educational opportunities to your child is our priority, but it can also be expensive. We need your help to create the best. If we all contribute what we can, we can do something incredible together.

Chromebook Deployment for Returning Students

Returning students, it's time to pick up your Chromebooks in preparation for the 2017-18 school year. Returning students must do the following in order to get their Chromebook back:

  1. Sign the TRU, Firmar el TRU
  2. Pay the $25 Chromebook User Fee

These steps can be completed online or in person when you come to pick up the Chromebook. Please note that an adult must come to the school to pick up the Chromebook; students cannot come pick up their Chromebooks unaccompanied.

The dates and times for Chromebook Deployment are listed below.

  • August 1: 8:00 am - 12:00 pm
  • August 3: 8:00 am - 11:30 am
  • August 8: 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm
  • August 10: 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
  • August 14: 8:00 am - 11:30 am

Returning students that do not complete the TRU and pay the user fee before school starts will receive their Chromebooks once those steps are completed. Please note that day users must still complete the TRU.

This is not Chromebook Deployment for new students to BSMS. Those students will be required to attend orientation on August 24. Those students can sign the TRU and pay the user fee online prior to orientation or complete them during the orientation program. Their Chromebooks will be distributed during the first week of school.

Welcome BSMS 6th Graders!

BSMS 6th Grade Families,

We are so excited you welcome you and your student to the BSMS Falcon Family. The beginning of the school year is fast approaching and we are thrilled to get to know your student.
