I am a Research Assistant Professor in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Utah.
My research interests are optics, photonics, hyperspectral imaging, flat optics and photolithography.
2021
A paper that I co-authored with Prof. Menon's group at Utah, showing a NA=0.9, diameter > 4mm flat lens was among the top cited papers in Optica since October 2020. The paper is freely available here. Congratulations to all the co-authors!
BBC Article on Flat Lenses: Our work on flat lenses was recently highlighted in a BBC news article available here. It's exciting to see all the fantastic work on flat optics around the world! This work is in collaboration with the groups of Prof. Menon and Prof. Sensale-Rodriguez at Utah.
Paper published in Optics Express: A paper in collaboration with Prof. Rajesh Menon's group has been accepted for publication in Optics Express (link), titled “Imaging from the visible to the longwave infrared via an inverse-designed flat lens ".
Here, we demonstrate chromatic correction of focal length over an extremely large bandwidth, from the visible (Vis: λ=0.45µm, blue) to the longwave infrared (LWIR: λ=15µm) wavelengths using a single diffractive surface, i.e., a multi-level diffractive lens (MDL) with a thickness of ≤ 10µm, diameter of ∼1mm, and focal length of 18mm.
Presenting at OSA Biophotonics conference: My paper was accepted for presentation at the OSA Biophotonics Conference. I will be presenting it on April 14. The title of the paper is "Full-frame Snapshot Hyperspectral Imaging for Biomedical Applications enabled by Diffractive Optics and Adaptive Neural Networks ".
Most Downloaded papers in Feb: Two papers that I have co-authored have been highlighted among the most downloaded papers in February in the journal OSA Continuum.
The first paper in collaboration with Prof. Berardi Sensale-Rodriguez's group describes the use of machine learning to design compact integrated photonics devices (open-access link).
The second paper in collaboration with Prof. Rajesh Menon's group describes free-form visible broadband flat lenses (open-access link).
Work on Flat Lenses selected in Optics in 2020 special issue of OPN: Our work in Prof. Rajesh Menon's group on flat lenses was featured in the OSA Optics & Photonics News annual Optics in 2020 issue. This issue highlights some of the best works in optics and photonics for that year.

Paper published in OSA Continuum: A paper that I co-authored with Utah graduate student Monjurul Meem and in collaboration with Prof. Rajesh Menon's group has been accepted for publication in OSA Continuum (open-access link), titled “Free-form broadband flat lenses for visible imaging ”. This paper demonstrates a new type of flat lenses where the lens f/# and NA are decoupled.

3 Papers accepted in OSA CLEO 2021: 3 papers in collaboration with Prof. Rajesh Menon and Prof. Berardi Sensale-Rodriguez's groups were accepted for presentation in OSA CLEO this year. These presentations will showcase our progress in the field of flat optics.
Utah COE Seed Grant Award: Thrilled to receive the Utah College of Engineering Research Incentive Seed Grant award for 2021. I will be investigating techniques to develop tunable flat optics.

Presentation at Optical Document Security conference 2020: Prof. Menon presented on our work at the Optical Document Security conference 2020. Utah graduate student Monjurul Meem collaborated with us on this work. It showcases applications of flat broadband holograms to optical document security.
