We had such a WONDERFUL week of experiences at Silver Lake. Carnival games, circus tricks, and lots of learning. This is all possible because of the time and support of our parents, volunteers, and donors. Thank you!!!
Take some time to see some of the highlights the district captured this week. we love being able to design experiences for our students and teachers.
Our students earn STAR tickets for good behavior as part of our CHAMPS work to organize and use common language and expectations in all learning spaces and common spaces. Students names are drawn with their ticket during morning announcements on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday to help raise the US and Texas flag with officer Akins. They are loving this incentive!

Parents, as a friendly reminder, our arrival time starts at 7:25. Our staff is not on contract before this time therefore we do not have supervision out front. We are noticing students running across our front drive/bus lane. It is a school requirement that all parents must walk their student across the front drive using our cross walk. Thank you for understanding and helping to keep our students safe!
Any student that is not physically present at school during our Attendance Period of 10:00 AM- 10:15 AM will be considered Absent. Notes from any appointments serve as documentation to mark your student accordingly to time of arrival and dismissal.
We encourage all doctor, dental and any other type of appointments to be scheduled before or after the attendance time to avoid any absences.
Medications at school: Students are not allowed to have medications, even over the counter creams or ointments, in their backpacks at school. Please see the nurse if your student needs to be given any over the counter or prescription medications during the school day, including emergency medications. Please DO NOT send medications to school with your child for their use or to bring to the nurse. All medications must be kept in the nurse’s office for the safety of all students and should be dropped off to the nurse by a parent/legal guardian.
Some guidelines for when your child should remain home:
- Fever of 100 degrees or higher within the last 24 hours
- Vomiting and/or diarrhea in the last 24 hours
- Unknown rash
- Itchy, red eyes with discharge
- Jaundice (yellowing of the white of the eyes or skin)
- Ringworm of the scalp (until treatment has started)
Students should remain home until free of fever, vomiting and/or diarrhea for 24 hours without the aid of any medication. To protect your children at school, students that are assessed to have any of the signs and symptoms listed above will be sent home.
Change of clothing: All students should have an extra set of seasonally appropriate clothing, including underwear, in their backpack. Clothes can be soiled for various reasons besides potty accidents (mud splashes, food spills, etc.). Your help is much appreciated in maintaining their comfort at school. The clinic has a limited supply of underwear and clothes. If clothing is unavailable, you will be called to bring clothes for your student.
Always feel free to contact the nurse with any of your questions or concerns.

STUDENT DROP OFF & Pick UP
Please note that the school does not open until 7:25. If you drop your child off before this, please know that they will not be under adult supervision.
We are continually streamlining our arrival and dismissal procedures and are grateful for your help and assistance in getting our learners to and from school safely!
With that, we wanted to send some updates and reminders regarding our arrival and dismissal procedures:
Parents, please stay in your car during carline drop-off and pick-up. This keeps the line moving efficiently for all, and is safer for students and families.
Children will be responsible for buckling and unbuckling themselves.
Students need to be in class by 7:40. With that in mind if you are not in the car line inside the gate at 7:40 you will be asked to turn around and walk your student in. Please bring your ID to Raptor into the office.
After the initial traffic in the first week, the back gate will be closing at 3:20. If you arrive after this time, students will be picked up in the front of the school through the office.
Thank you for all you do to help us keep our students and staff safe during these times.
FRIDAYS ARE SPIRIT WEAR DAYS!
Every friday we encourage all students and staff to wear Silver Lake gear, or green and blue! We have a competition going to see how many class members can wear the most spirit wear!
We will have a spirit shop open to purchase shirts and gear soon.
Student lunch accounts
Parents, as a reminder, please check your student's lunch account. It is important to check often so your student's lunch account does not go into a negative balance. Our cafeteria manager has sent home letters and an email if your account is currently negative.
BIRTHDAYS- NO FOOD, NO DRINKS, NO BALLOONS
You may bring small toys, stickers, pencils (if you want to bring something to share with others).
Lunch Drop off:
Parents, please leave lunches in the vestibule, if you come before 9:45 to drop off a lunch. After that, you will need to get a raptor badge and place your student's lunch on or in the shelves right next to the cafeteria doors.
If you come during your child's lunch, you will need to raptor badge in, and go into the cafeteria as a visitor to hand it to your child.
We wish we had enough staff to manage this, but we could really use your extra hands! Thanks for understanding.
If you want to come into the school, and you will be around other children you MUST complete a Volunteer Background Check. This could take up to a few days to complete. Click Here. If you are unsure if your volunteer background check has been approved or not, please contact Itzy in the Front Office at 817-251-5750.
Upon arrival, you will need to use our intercom system and let the front office know you wish to have lunch with your student. Please state if it's inside or outside. You will need to bring a valid state-issued ID and use our visitor kiosks in the vestibule to obtain a visitor's badge, then proceed to the front office. Please allow extra time before your scheduled time to get checked in. You will need to bring your own lunch as we will not be able to accommodate visitor lunches through our lunch lines at this time. You may bring lunch for your student or they may go through the line while you wait.
You will be meeting your child in our visitor area in front of the office. Since we have very limited seating we will be following the schedule below:
Mondays - Pre K, 1st, and 4th
Tuesdays - Kinder and 3rd
Wednesdays - 2nd and 5th
Thursdays - All grades while spots last
Fridays - All grades while spots last
Returning Parent Volunteers- You must complete the volunteer background check EVERY SCHOOL YEAR. Please be sure you click the link to re-enroll for the 23-24 school year.
Times to remember:
7:20-Students will be able to enter the campus beginning at 7:20am in the morning. They may get breakfast until 7:35. After this, the breakfast line will be closed.
7:40-Classes begin promptly at 7:40am. Please ensure that your child has time to get to their classroom and be in their spots ready to learn at 7:40!
Our outdoor staff come into the building at this time-as we begin serving our students in classrooms then!
Tardies-Students are late if they are not in class by 7:40. If your student is late, please park your car and Raptor into the office. Please bring your ID. This will ensure students enter safely

National School Lunch Week is here: October 10-13, 2023
Each year, GCISD celebrates National School Lunch Week (NSLW) in October at our elementary and middle school campuses. During NSLW, we feature student favorites, Texas local items and special Texas State Fair themed treats for the students. This year’s menu features Cowboy Caviar, Texas made Lone Star Luau Fruit Slush, Pizza on a Stick, Cinnamon Sugar Churros and, back by popular demand, our Cowboy Quesadilla to name a few! The students and staff have lots of fun with these special menu items this week and Nutrition Services looks forward to continuing this tradition. We hope you'll join us, October 10-13 during school lunch!
HS Health/AVID 3 Just Say YES - Freedom to Succeed Parent Preview
GCISD uses several resources and programs for middle school health curriculum in order to be proactive in our delivery of education concerning human sexuality. Freedom to Succeed will be presented to high school Health/AVID 3 students according to the campus schedule that can be found in the Parent Preview Letter linked here.
Parents may preview this program on October 10, 2023 at 6pm online using the links provided in the Parent Preview Letter. Every parent of a student enrolled in Health/AVID 3 will be asked to indicate their preference of participation for their child electronically in the forms section of Skyward or by completing and returning a paper consent form by the deadlines established in the Parent Preview Letter. These deadlines allow each campus time to adequately prepare spaces, supervision, and account for student attendance. Thank you in advance for adhering to these deadlines.

On Saturday, October 14 the Grapevine-Colleyville community will be able to view a solar eclipse. For a couple of hours, the moon will pass between the earth and the sun. The moon’s shadow will cross North, Central, and South America through the morning and midday. At around noon our community will be mostly covered by the moon’s shadow! The sky will become a little darker and the outside temperature will drop a little! To view the Sun during the eclipse, you MUST wear or use a Safe Solar Eclipse Viewer.
