Our first XD week of the year is next week! We are so excited to present Under the Big Top to our first graders. We have incorporated a circus themed twist throughout the week. We have several fun surprises in store.... let the show begin!
We would like to send a heartfelt thank you to the amazing volunteers that helped with making and hanging Experience Week decor throughout the building. Our hallways look fantastic! All of our Shooting Stars will love the big reveal on Monday! You are the best!
The Butterfly Flutterby art contest is now underway. Mrs. Alvarado is introducing it to students. Interested students may pick up forms outside the Art room.
Fall conferences are coming soon. Be on the lookout for information from your child's teacher about how to sign-up for a conference time. Conference topics will include assessment data, current progress and ways to support learning at home. We look forward to visiting with you about the exciting things we see happening with your child during the school day!
We encourage you to report attendance related information (illness, appointments, funerals, trips, etc) to your child's teacher and the Silver Lake Data Secretary. You can contact her by email or phone:

Attendance for Credit and Grade Level Promotion: In order to receive credit for a class, a student is required to attend class 90 percent of the days a class is offered regardless of whether the student's absences are excused or unexcused.
Attendance Referrals for Truancy: Students enrolled in prekindergarten-grade 12 are required to attend school and are subject to the compulsory attendance requirements as long as they remain enrolled.
The chart below includes steps that the district takes to update parents/guardians regarding a student's absences in relation to the two rules to the left. Parents/guardians can monitor student absences in Skyward.
If you plan to attend school events such as class parties, family picnics, awards, grade level programs and more during the school year, you will need to complete a GCISD Volunteer Background Check. The background check and approval will be required at school events for all adults in attendance. The approval process takes several days. We highly recommend that you complete your background check soon. A new background check is required each school year. We have a grade level picnic scheduled for Thursday, October 19 from 10:40-11:40 and we want all of our first grade families to be cleared for attendance. The background check form is linked below.
The Silver Lake PTA will continue classroom Room Parents this year. Each first grade class is in need of a Room Parent. If you wish to serve in this role, you will help with the winter party, Valentine's party and anything else in between. Please contact your child's homeroom teacher if you would like to serve in this capacity. Each teacher will pass your name and email along to the Silver Lake PTA Volunteer Coordinator. Thank you for your help and support. We appreciate you!
