~We had a fantastic first week getting to know each one of our FABULOUS first graders. We look forward to all the new year has in store.
~Please email us if the way your child goes home changes. We check our email throughout the day.
~Each Friday is Spirit Day at Silver Lake. Your child is invited to wear a blue, green or Silver Lake shirt to celebrate school spirit.
Throughout the year, our first graders will use iPads for progress monitoring, research, math, ebooks reading and more. Each student will need a pair of headphones for classroom use. The headphones you send to school will be stored individually and will only be used by your child.
From time to students come across a "just in case" clothing situation during their day at school (i.e. spill at lunch, wet slide, muddy fall on the playground or accident). We would love your help preparing for a "just in case" clothing situation. Please place a baggie in your child's backpack with the following items:
1 pair of socks
1 pair of shorts or pants
1 shirt
1 pair of underwear
Please send your child's fully charged iPad and charger to school each day. We will work to update your child's device and login to new apps throughout the week. You may find it helpful to label your child's charger and send it to school each day in his or her backpack just in case it is needed.
Are you looking for a way to contribute to your child's classroom? Check out the list below for ideas.
disinfecting wipes
liquid soap
liquid soap refills
hand sanitizer
colored copy paper
stickers
stamp pads
flair pens
envelopes
snack sized baggies
sandwich sized baggies
gallon sized baggies
Sharpies
white paper plates
brown paper lunch bags
We are looking for volunteers that are interested in helping first grade teachers prepare for schoolwide EXPERIENCE weeks. If you are interested in helping prepare hallway decorations or classroom items for EXPERIENCE weeks, please send an email to your child's teacher and fill out the GCISD Volunteer Background Check form linked below. We look forward to hearing from you!
ps... Our first EXPERIENCE is in September!
Your child is welcome to bring a water bottle to school each day. Bottles may be refilled at classroom sinks throughout the day, as needed. Please label your child's water bottle with his or her name in case classmates have similar or matching water bottles or to help it find its home if it gets misplaced.
All first graders will have a snack time each afternoon. If you are willing to donate individually packaged snack items for your child's classroom, the donations will be gladly accepted. All snack items must be nut-free and must be processed in a nut-free facility. Snack ideas include:
Goldfish crackers
Pretzels
Cheez-It crackers
Chex Mix
Popcorn
Veggie Straws
Animal Crackers
Fruit Snacks
Families are also welcome to send healthy snacks for their own child each day (no chips or cookies, please).
School begins at 7:40 each morning
Lunch will be at 10:15 - 10:45
Recess will be at 10:45 - 11:15
First graders will go to Specials (PE, Music and Art) from 1:25-2:10
Walkers will be dismissed from the courtyard doors. Please carry your car tag so teachers are able to identify you quickly.
Car riders will be dismissed from the back of the school. Remember to display your child's car tag on the dashboard or in a front window if your child is a car rider.
