The Risk Experience

Welcome! You've heard the stories... Are you ready for the experience?

My classroom is a unique place filled with engaging content and activities; a place that provides opportunity for creative expression. Whether it is dressing up in costumes, like George Washington to preside over a mock convention or taking students on field trips to the International Civil Rights Museum, the Carolina Renaissance Festival, or Rho Kappa trips to Philadelphia, Gettysburg, Charleston, Washington, DC or Monticello, my hope is that my students leave with a better understanding, love and connection to their great country and the world. I tolerate unbelievable levels of banter, playfulness and seemingly outrageous behavior for a classroom but I will NEVER tolerate meanness. I want my students to feel perfectly at ease approaching me about any issue that is occurring in class , school or life. My job is to teach the “rules” to play the game of “life.” I don’t worry about tests; I worry about who is taking the tests. . . I want to transform young minds into compete, responsible American citizens, who are ready for the “real world.” I require active participation as well as a commitment to constantly strive to reflect on and improve performance of the pattern of intellectual behavior. Goethe said, “thinking is easy, acting is difficult and to put one’s thoughts into action is the most difficult thing in the world.” I want my students to act on their knowledge. I believe “education is the most powerful weapon to change the world.
