Hello 5th Grade Families!

Time is really flying, we've already sprinted through October in our 2021-2022 school year! I'm constantly trying to find ways to keep in touch with our awesome community, and I thought it would be a great idea to keep you all updated through a monthly newsletter here on our elementary band website! On to the news!

This past month has been incredible! Even though we've had a late start due to a summer mold issue in our band instrument inventory (ew), we've finally had our first few lessons and the kids have never been more excited! I have been floored with the amount of interest both 5th graders and their families have shown in this program, and I can proudly say that in just the past month, our enrollment has surged up to 135 children across all four elementary schools! Thank you so much for your outpouring of support, questions, and band signups, I feel honored to service your children in such a caring community.

I'm also excited to tell you that the district is currently renting instruments from area instrument supplier John Keal Music, so even though our school-owned instruments are currently unplayable, your children can still work with quality instruments at no cost to them. We need to keep a close eye on our rentals so we unfortunately cannot send these leases home with your children, but while we anxiously await cleaned and sanitized instruments, we can still provide your kids with instruments to learn and play on in lessons.

So far this month, we've learned how to make sounds on our mouthpieces, discussed instrument care, learned breathing technique for playing wind instruments, assembled and properly held our instruments, and even learned our first few notes! We've also named our lesson groups, and the creativity your kids have shown in their group names has been so much fun! There are a ton of great names that you can look through in our Barkley, Curie, McNulty, and Tecler lesson schedules for November, but here are some of my favorites:

• "SilverTrumpet.com"

• "The People That Hit Stuff" (leave it to drummers...)

• "Black Spaghetti"

• "Royteannaliss" (they combined their names!)

• "The Late Sleepers" (they both showed up late to school that day)

• "Reese's Puffs"

• "5th Grade Taco"

• "The Banned Group" (get it? 'band' group? :D)

• "Empowering Glow"

• "Potato"

¡Hola familias de quinto grado!

El tiempo realmente vuela, ¡ya hemos corrido hasta octubre en nuestro año escolar 2021-2022! Estoy constantemente tratando de encontrar formas de mantenerme en contacto con nuestra increíble comunidad, ¡y pensé que sería una gran idea mantenerlos actualizados a través de un boletín mensual aquí en nuestro sitio web de la banda de primaria! ¡A las noticias!

¡Este último mes ha sido increíble! A pesar de que tuvimos un comienzo tardío debido a un problema de moho de verano en nuestro inventario de instrumentos de banda (¡bruto!), ¡finalmente tuvimos nuestras primeras lecciones y los niños nunca habían estado más emocionados! Me ha sorprendido la cantidad de interés que tanto los estudiantes de quinto grado como sus familias han mostrado en este programa, y ​​puedo decir con orgullo que en el último mes, ¡nuestra inscripción ha aumentado a 135 niños en las cuatro escuelas primarias! Muchas gracias por su gran apoyo, preguntas y suscripciones a la banda. Me siento honrado de servir a sus hijos en una comunidad tan solidaria.

También me complace decirles que el distrito actualmente alquila instrumentos del proveedor de instrumentos del área John Keal Music, por lo que aunque nuestros instrumentos de propiedad de la escuela no se pueden tocar actualmente, sus hijos aún pueden trabajar con instrumentos de calidad sin costo para ellos. Necesitamos vigilar de cerca nuestros alquileres, por lo que desafortunadamente no podemos enviar estos contratos de arrendamiento a casa con sus hijos, pero mientras aguardamos ansiosamente los instrumentos limpios y desinfectados, aún podemos proporcionarles a sus hijos instrumentos para que aprendan y jueguen en las lecciones.

En lo que va de este mes, hemos aprendido cómo hacer sonidos en nuestras boquillas, discutimos el cuidado de los instrumentos, aprendimos la técnica de respiración para tocar instrumentos de viento, ensamblamos y sostuvimos adecuadamente nuestros instrumentos, ¡e incluso aprendimos nuestras primeras notas! ¡También hemos nombrado a nuestros grupos de lecciones, y la creatividad que sus hijos han mostrado en los nombres de sus grupos ha sido muy divertida!
