Who can participate in the SSO program?

All children in the community 18 years of age or younger can receive free meals from Garnet Valley School District.

If I participate in the program will I be taking meals away from a family in need?

No, this program is available to all families despite their financial situations. Participating in this program will not take away from another family's ability to participate.

What does the District do to ensure proper COVID-19 precautions are in place?

All Food Service staff are required to complete a daily pre-shift COVID-19 screening. If at any time a staff member is not feeling well, they are instructed to stay home. During operations, Food Service staff follow proper hand-washing procedures, use gloves, and a mask to prevent contamination and to protect themselves and others. Gloves are changed frequently and masks must be worn at all times in the production area. Staff are instructed to work at least six feet apart and all surfaces are sanitized before, during and after production.

How can Garnet Valley School District afford to give away free meals?

The U.S. Secretary of Agriculture recently announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will extend several flexibilities for school meals throughout the remainder of 2020-2021 school year. We are now able to serve meals for all children in the community age 18 and under for free. In passing this legislation, the USDA will reimburse the District for meals distributed to a child.

What if I completed the Meal Reservation form but can no longer make it to the pick-up?

Please contact the Food Service Director, Stephen Wanczyk, 610-579-7755.

What should I expect when I pick-up the meals?

Meal pick-up will be located in the parking lot between Garnet Valley Elementary School and Garnet Valley Middle School; more specifically, near the cafeteria entrance of Garnet Valley Middle School. Food Service staff will deliver meals directly to the vehicle. All Food Service staff will be equipped with the proper protective equipment.

Why is the reservation form closed? Does this mean that I will not be able to pick up my meals?

The meal reservation form was closed, because the list of recipients was printed to prepare for the pick-up process. Once printed, names that would have been submitted after print would not have been seen, so the form was closed to prevent this from happening. The new form for the weeks to come, will be posted prior to the next scheduled pick up date.

Although the form has been closed, you may still visit the District during the designated meal pick-up time frame; the Food Service staff will do all it can to accommodate your needs. We will continue to use the form to be prepared with an appropriate number of meals, which will be determined by the number of form submissions. We encourage everyone to fill out the form well in advance to ensure the meals will be ready for you to pick up.
