Formative Assessment

Formative Assessment Tech Tools

The monthly focus of ‘Formative Assessment’ reflects on collecting data, providing feedback, and accommodating learner needs to empower students to take an active role in their personal growth.

Elementary teachers use a digital tool like Google Forms to collect immediate feedback, review the data, and design extension and remediation activities for students.

Mrs. Anaya, Mrs. Zamarippa-Garcia, and Mrs. Villar are our top Pear Deck users this school year. If you've been tempted but not explored Pear Deck yet, you might check in with these Pear Deck savvy teachers for tips on how they're using Pear Deck to make a difference in their classrooms!

Pear Deck

Pear Deck is an excellent Formative Assessment tool available to Garland ISD. This tool turns slides interactive and can be used on Google Slides and Microsoft PPT. Pear Deck works within the Canvas LMS framework. The teacher can create lessons for students to experience independently at their own pace or for the class to work through in real-time with the teacher.

The YouTube videos to the right demonstrate how Pear Deck works and how to integrate it with Canvas.

Pear Deck offers various training opportunities. Different badges can be earned for completing webinars and live training sessions.

Nearpod

Nearpod is another way to engage students in learning. Formative assessments worked into the interactive activities make this a powerful tool in your classroom! The YouTube videos to the left feature the free version of the app and guide you through creating your first Nearpod lesson.

Garland ISD has purchased the license for the premium version of Nearpod. Register using your garlandisd.net email and start looking at the possibilities. Nearpod also integrates with the Canvas LMS.

Check out this blog post for ten ways to use Nearpod in the classroom!
