Expedition Leader Award

The Expedition Leader Award prepares our Gold students in Assisting in Basic Expedition Leadership and provides an ideal starting point for learners who are aged 16 years and over who wish to develop their outdoor leadership skills.

ELA is a practical qualification in which learners must demonstrate their ability to lead others. The aim of the qualification is to prepare responsible, motivated and confident leaders that can assist during expeditions in lowland countryside.

  • Age: 16+ (please note, there is no upper age limit for this qualification)
  • Guided learning hours: 60 hours (including 20 hours demonstration of leadership)
