Application Link & Video Instructions
Please read all the Information provided below so that you are prepared to begin the Application.
Please watch the video to walk through the application process which will hopefully answer any questions you may have. (9 mins)
Step 1: Attending an Information Session
Please make sure to attend one of our Information Sessions. These information sessions are the first step in really getting to know what Bill Crothers Secondary School is all about. We are more that just a sport school, but the most important thing for you and your child, is whether Bill Crothers is a good fit for your family. There are many things to consider - transportation, schedules, both your day to day and your yearly schedules and the programs you are looking for.
Step 2: Go to the application link provided from our website.
The link will become available on October 3, 2019. (Application Process 2020 - 2021)
Step 3: Read over the **Before you begin this application"
This goes over information that you will require during the completing of your application. It is important to know that once you start the application, you cannot save and then go back to finish it. Once started - you must complete it.
Things to organize -
Check in with the coach of the highest sport that your child participates in - obtain a correct email address from that person. Advise them that you will be giving them a form to complete (a formal letter is not required) and advise them of the deadline. Will they be able to meet that deadline for you. You may need their assistance with proof of participation. This could be a receipt from registration (you may already have this), a copy of a team roster, a website where all registered players are listed or results have been posted for events your child has participated in.
Check with a teacher that your child currently has or has taught your child within the last year. Please remember the teacher should have taught you a core subject (Math, English, Science, History/Social Studies).
If applicable, obtain a copy of your child's IEP.
Make copies of the complete set of report cards for the the previous year (Grade 8 student - would require all their Grade 7 report cards) (Grade 9 student - would require all their Grade 8 report cards) etc.
Obtain your school information - Current School - Name - Address - what Board of Education does it belong to. What is your home secondary school?
Please make sure you have a current email address that we will be able to correspond with you at. (This is very important!!!)
Step 4: Read over the Parent and Student questions.
Prepare your answers so that when you start the application you are able to enter this information directly into the application. This should be 100 words or less for each questions.
Step 5: You are ready to begin.
Complete the on-line application. If you have done your preparation - this should only take you about 30 min. Then hit submit.
Step 6: What happens next?
You will receive a confirmation copy of your completed application within 48 hours of submission. This will come to the email address that you have listed under the 1st Parent/Guardian contact. Along with this will be the forms for your Teacher and Coach reference. If you have not received the confirmation email after 48 hours please email firstname.lastname@example.org
Step 7: Give your reference the appropriate forms for completion.
You have the option of submitting the reference with your application, or your references may choose to send them to us directly. Either way is fine, please make sure that they submit in a sealed envelope with their signature across the seal of the envelope. No written letters are required from the references.
Step 8: Submit your completed application
Applications should be submitted in a large brown sealed envelope - with the student's name and grade on the outside of the envelope. Please make sure to use the check list, that is included with the application, to ensure that you have submitted all the necessary information. Also include your $30.00 application fee.
This can be dropped into the large black metal box that is located just outside the main office. This will remain outside the office over the weekend to allow for drop off outside of school hours.
Please remember the deadline of Friday October 25th, 2019. You must have submitted your application on line by midnight of Friday October 25th. The drop box will remain outside the main office until the office opens 7 am Monday morning.
Application submitted after the 25th and received on Monday October 28th and later are considered late and will only be considered for the waiting list as space is available.
Step 9: Notification
All applicants will be notified by email no later than January 17.
Successful applicants will be asked to attend a registration and course selection evening on Thursday January 23, 2020.
Students who are on the waiting list will be contacted by email if space becomes available. We refer to the waiting list right up until the first week of classes in August.
What is my primary sport?
For elementary students, this is the sport that you play at the highest level - outside of school sports.
For the purpose of the application - we ask that you identify all the sports that your son/daughter play and/or the level of competition your son/daughter is participating at.
For the application purpose our interest is in your overall participation in sport.
Declaration of Primary Sport to the YRAA will not take place until the student has been accepted to Bill Crothers and has started school in August. For some students this might have changed from the time that they applied. i.e. Students may have been playing house league and over the summer they have made a rep. team, etc.
For the declaration to YRAA in August - this is to determine the student's eligibility to compete for BCSS.
It is important when making your decision to apply that you may not be able to play for a YRAA sanctioned team in your primary sport.
