Considering an acting or theatre arts course in university? As you start your exploration, you will find opportunities to study at conservatories (every student focused on the arts) as well as comprehensive universities (larger schools with performing arts departments or specialties). There are many rankings and industry publications with articles on different program, but your individual research will be the best tool to see if a particular program offers the training you seek.
When applying for these degrees you need to make sure you note a few things carefully:
Deadlines can be very early in Grade 12
Students must do advance research about auditions and consider what form they may take (in person, sending recorded materials, need to send a performance CV, etc.)
Know the timings of the auditions so if you are called for one, you are ready for any clashes with school
Look at the UWCSEA Connect alumni website to see if anyone from UWCSEA has attended any of the schools you are thinking about or are pursuing a career in acting, theatre, or film. This career is about talent, hard work, and networking!
It will also be interesting to know what is current in the industry, so think about following the professional bodies established to support actors in the country you might like to eventually work. For example, here are the links for MEAA in Australia, Equity in the UK, and Actors' Equity in the US.
