TASK
As a group, complete add ideas for each of the available switches and sensors that we have available
On the sheet:
Write group members names
State the problem
Explain what your solution must be able to do
discuss and then write how each component could be used in some way to help solve part or all of the problem
Scan and add to your portfolio slide (shown right) once completed
*Look at the example below for inspiration and guidance
POTENTIAL IDEAS FOR A SMART TRAFFIC SYSTEM
1. Traffic Light System:
Use the Lego Spark kit's sensors and LEDs to simulate traffic lights. You can program the lights to change based on traffic conditions, such as the presence of a vehicle or pedestrian.
Implement a basic algorithm that adjusts the light duration based on traffic flow, emulating adaptive traffic lights in smart cities.
2. Vehicle Detection:
UtiliSe ultrasonic sensors or coloUr sensors to detect vehicles at intersections. The sensors can be programmed to trigger the traffic lights or send signals to a central controller when a car is detected.
3. Pedestrian Crossing:
Add a pedestrian button using the kit's touch sensors. When pressed, the system could pause vehicle traffic and allow pedestrians to cross safely. This feature can also be programmed to work with timers and audio signals for added realism.
4. Central Control System:
Use the kit to simulate a central traffic management system. Multiple intersections can be connected and controlled from a central hub, where data from each intersection (like vehicle count and traffic flow) is collected and processed to optimise traffic patterns.
5. Emergency Vehicle Priority:
You can simulate an emergency vehicle detection system that overrides the normal traffic sequence to give priority to emergency vehicles, demonstrating how smart systems can improve response times.
6. Data Collection and Analytics:
Integrate a simple data collection mechanism where the system logs traffic data. You could then analySe this data to make decisions, such as adjusting traffic light timings during different times of the day.
