Considering a PA Physician's Assistant Program? According to a UW representative a PRE-PA candidate can earn any Bachelor's Degree as long as they meet the prerequisites to apply to the program they are considering. Biology is a good option - students are usually advised to consider whether they wish to pursue a Bachelor's degree that has a specific employment outcome, i.e. Nursing, CLS, Dietetics, etc. or if they are comfortable with a more general degree, i.e. Biology, Chemistry, Psychology, etc. As long as they meet the requirements to apply to the PA program, any degree will be fine.

NTC - Medical Assistant / CNA / Academy Information -
This information was shared by NTC Dean of College Enrollment - Sarah Dillon -
We wanted to share some additional information regarding the Medical Assistant/CNA Academy being offered for 2019-2020.This academy is part of a Department of Workforce Development (DWD) High School Certifications Grant that can fund the instructional cost and supplies for students. NTC will run this program as a contract with school districts, allowing us to reduce the cost of tuition to the schools by up to 50% with a minimum of 10 participants. The deadline for applicants is March 1, 2019 and we’d like to provide some additional information for you to consider and share with prospective students.
Estimated Total Cost of Tuition: $2018
Estimated Cost Billed to School District through Contract: $1009
Estimated potential Technical Incentive Grant reimbursement - $500-600
Estimated Total Cost to District per student after DPI reimbursement: $400-500/student
Medical Assistants are in high demand, and the academy allows students to complete 7 of the 32 required credits for this technical diploma. Graduates of the academy will be guaranteed admission to the Medical Assistant program at NTC after high school graduation. Students will also complete the CNA technical diploma, making them eligible for the Technical Incentive Grant dollars for your district and participation in the Youth Apprenticeship program.
The academy includes Medical Terminology, a 3 credit course. If students have already taken this course as Dual Credit or through a network contract with your district, this would reduce the cost even more! Students who have completed Medical Terminology (and CNA) would be great candidates for this program.
We are offering this program with a very flexible schedule. A CNA course would be offered during summer 2019, taking into consideration the schedules of interested participants. The remaining courses will be offered 100% online, with case management provided by Yang Yee Lor to ensure students’ success and weekly check-ins with faculty via technology.
Yang Yee Lor and our Associate Dean of Health Sciences (and former Medical Assistant faculty), Janet Baumann, are open to coming to your district to speak with interested students. We’d also be happy to host those students at one of our campuses to show them the MA labs and give them a better idea of what the program entails (transportation and lunch provided by NTC). More information can also be found at https://www.ntc.edu/academics-training/programs/all/technical-diploma/medical-assistant.
If you are interested in more information or a student visit, please contact Yang Yee Lor at lory@ntc.edu or 715.803.1881.
