AmeriCorps
"I will get things done for America... Faced with apathy, I will take action. Faced with conflict, I will seek common ground.... Faced with adversity, I will persevere. I will carry this commitment with me this year. I am an Americorps volunteer."
--Bill Clinton
Placement: 2014-2015
Wausau East High School; Wausau, WI
I have been positioned at Wausau East High School, a multicultural secondary public school, consisting of approximately 1,100 students. Here my main purpose is to provide an enriching and safe environment for students so they can excel both academically and emotionally. My focus is on the education of ELL (English language learners), special education, and at-risk students.
Elementary Summer School
Summer school has taken me into Riverview Elementary School, where I am working with second grade students. There is a mix of diversity and disabilities among the twenty-one students. I am responsible for behavior, math/reading/writing assistance, and discipline within the classroom.
I also assist with the after-school program at the elementary school.
Mentoring
High Five 4 College: After School Program
This is my second year working with sixth, seventh and eighth graders who are enrolled in the after-school program, High Five 4 College. It is designed to help prepare students for present and future success. There is a focus on self-esteem, team bonding, responsibility, and positive choices.
