This freshmen level course based on the Common Core State Standards includes units on The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, Of Mice and Men, a contemporary novel, poetry, vocabulary and word usage, essay writing, and short stories. Assessments are based on literary and writing skills. Recommended student artifacts for each student's portfolio include these choices: narrative poem, expository essay, Romeo and Juliet project, and the Human Rights essay.
