Dear Parent/Guardian:
IMPORTANT MEDICATION INFORMATION FOR OUTDOOR SCHOOL
An exciting outdoor experience at Camp Tamarack is just around the corner for your 5th grade student. In order to assure they will have the best educational experience, Bend- La Pine Schools would like to make sure you have the information you need regarding their health and safety while at camp.
It is against school district policy for students to bring medication to school or to send it packed with them to outdoor school. Please plan in advance for those medications your child will require during the outdoor school experience.
Prescription Medications: Your pharmacy can make a school bottle and accurate labeling for your child’s prescriptive medication. All prescriptive medication must be in the most current prescription bottle with accurate labeling, this includes samples given by a physician. If the directions on the prescription label are different from what the physician is currently prescribing, written instruction is required from the physician. **This includes directions for over-the-counter medications.
Please send only the amount of medication needed for the 3-day trip.
Please refrain from sending non-essential medications such as vitamins and supplements.
We will not be accepting any prescription medication that is not in its most up to date, unexpired container or those without a pharmacy label.
For any controlled substances such as ADHD medications, please count out the number of pills needed for the camp experience and send only the amount needed for camp in the container.
All medication must be cut or scored before coming to school to check it in.
All asthma inhalers and Epi-Pens must have accurate medication labeling on the inhaler or pen itself. Your pharmacy can make a label for you free of charge.
Keep medication to a minimum for this camp experience, only what is essential.
If your child has been receiving medication during the school day, please note, we will not be taking medication from the school medication supply. This is to decrease confusion and maintain the integrity of the school medication cupboard.
Pick Up: Medication will be available for you, the parent/guardian, to pick up at school at the end of the camp experience. If medication is not picked up it will be disposed of within a week after the camp experience.
Your school nurse will be available at the school PRIOR to the date of departure to take in medications your child will require while at outdoor school. *Bringing in medications the morning of camp may delay student departure time.
Drop off medications with Nurse Susan between Oct. 8th-10th.
Please notify your school nurse if this date and time frame does not work
for you.
