Smart Biomaterials & Biofabrication
We engineer soft matter to understand biology and treat diseases
We engineer soft matter to understand biology and treat diseases
At the Smart Biomaterial & Soft Matter Lab, we design advanced polymers and responsive hydrogel systems that actively interact with cells and tissues to address pressing biomedical challenges. Our research brings together soft-matter physics, polymer chemistry, and mechanobiology to create programmable biomaterials capable of sensing, adapting, and delivering therapeutic cues with precision. By developing smart, tunable material platforms—ranging from dynamic hydrogels to microstructured bioink systems—we work to improve drug delivery, modulate immune–cell interactions, and promote tissue repair in complex disease environments. Through integrated 3D bioprinting approaches, we further recreate hierarchical tissue architectures and build sophisticated, biomimetic tissue constructs that advance our understanding of biological systems and accelerate the development of next-generation therapies.
Design next-generation hydrogels that dynamically respond to the body’s needs by sensing biological signals and delivering therapeutic cues in a controlled, adaptive manner
Leverage advanced 3D printing technologies to construct complex, biomimetic tissue architectures that enable accurate disease modeling and serve as functional tissue substitutes
Understand and harness mechanobiology principles to modulate cell function, influence tissue remodeling, and improve regenerative outcomes.
We are looking for passionate graduate students and undergraduates to join our team and work on cutting-edge projects in polymers, biomaterials, stem cells, 3D bioprinting, and regenerative medicine. If you are curious, driven, and excited to explore how smart materials can transform human health, we’d love to hear from you.
