Critical care is the field with a focus on the utmost care of the critically ill or unstable patients following extensive injury, surgery or life-threatening diseases. It involves close, constant attention by a team of specially-trained health care providers. Many patients in critical care recover, but some die. Having advance directives in place is important. Through a series of lectures, discussions, group work, online and self-directed learning key areas related to critical care will be explored. As part of this learning process you will critically analyse, appraise and reflect on critical care concepts, including current evidence surrounding common nursing and medical interventions.

This course focuses on enabling the student to develop proficiency in the management of patients admitted to critical care units within the health care sector. This course will enable the nurses to build capabilities and competencies required for specific treatment plans of caring for critical illnesses as well as develop critical thinking skills. The Course includes overview about critical care practices, disease conditions, care and treatment of critically ill patients.

• To provide an educational framework that will encourage the student to develop her/his skills of analysis and critical awareness in order to stimulate an enquiring and creative approach to both the theory and practice of critical care nursing

The unstable nature of critically ill patients and technological advancement focuses on the need for specialized nursing care. B.Sc Nursing, GNM, Nursing staff in Hospital

Assessment will be based on internship, case discussion and written objective type of test which will be conducted at the end of this course. There shall be no university exam/s.

The methodology throughout this course will be a blend of key theoretical concepts and practical aspects of it through exposure in hospital.
