BIOGRAPHY
Born in Malaysia, the painter Ken Yang has been living in Paris for more than sixteen years. Graduate of the Malaysia Institute of Art in Kuala Lumpur, he is fascinated by the European aesthetical and artistic heritage. Influenced by the great masters of the Renaissance, he excels in the figurative, still life, horses, landscapes, miniatures. A practitioner of traditional oil painting techniques, he specialized in Royal and prestige portraiture: Their Majesties the King and the Queen of Malaysia, as well as Sultanahs, Princes and Princesses of different Royal Houses of Malaysia. The renowned perfumer Monsieur Jean-Paul Guerlain and other French and European dignitaries. More recently, His Royal Highness Henri of Orleans Count of Paris Duke of France, and Her Highness the young Princess Arielle de Ligne.
In 2013, he was the youngest artist for whom a retrospective exhibition was dedicated at the National Art Gallery Malaysia. The said exhibition was inaugurated, for the first time in the history of the country, by His Majesty the King of Malaysia Sultan of Kedah.
In 2017, he was the first and only painter selected by the International Cultural Heritage Fair, which was held under the High Patronage of the President of the Republic of France at Carrousel du Louvre, where he was presented as “Royal Portraitist”, recognizing that his art carried indeed an undeniable patrimonial dimension.
For several years, he has been developing Leonardo da Vinci's sfumato technique, and is currently preparing for an exceptional event on the occasion of the commemoration in 2019 of the five hundred years of the Florentine Master’s death. He also takes classes in Byzantine iconography under the direction of the masters of this tradition. His works are part of royal, public and private collections.
