On September the 11th 2024, the University of Porto took the next step in the implementation of the EDU-FIT canteen recommendations.
These recommendations have been developed by a panel of nutrition experts from de project, as well as based on research on the best practices for school nutrition, and the contributions taken from the 1st EDU-FIT workshop. The final product is a simple poster with actionable tips to help canteen staff to prepare even healthier meals for the students of the Universities involved in the consortium. The poster has been translated in 5 languages and can be downloaded from our resources page and be used free of charge.
After the development phase and a pre-implementation phase where canteen workers from Croatia, Portugal, Slovenia and Slovakia were surveyed to acess some basic charactetistics regarding their confidence when preparing meals. This was followed by the implementation phase, were the posters were put up in the workers common area. after this phase, they will be surveyed once more to assess their impact on the staff.
In the Faculty of Pharmacy/Institute of Biomedical Sciences of the University of Porto, the posters were hanged in the workers common area for 2 weeks.
