HEALing Communities Study Medication Disposal Program

The intervention period for the HEALing Communities Study (HCS) Kentucky concluded on 12/31/2023. The medication disposal program will no longer be purchasing drop boxes or supplies for pharmacies. The resources on this website will continue to be available to help sustain this strategy in existing locations and to serve as a resource for anyone who is interested is learning about community pharmacy-based medication disposal.

The HEALING COMMUNITIES STUDY can help your pharmacy install a MedSafe® collection receptacle at no cost. This includes 9 inner liners, promotional signage, and bag inserts.

How to Order

Sign the MedSafe Responsibilities Agreement

A pharmacy representative must sign the MedSafe® Responsibilities Agreement and return it to the HCS Disposal Coordinator. This can be done using a digital signature or printing the document and signing in the appropriate location. 

Modify your DEA Registration

The first step in placing an order for a medication collection receptacle with MedSafe® is to modify the pharmacy’s DEA registration to become an authorized collector. Information needed includes the pharmacy’s DEA Number, business name, Social Security Number, tax ID, zip code for business, and the current expiration date listed on the registration certificate. To make this modification:

Submit the signed Responsibilities Agreement  and copy of the updated DEA registration to HCS using one of the methods below.
