2020 NACLO at UCLA

Thank you for your interest in the 2020 North American Computational Linguistics Olympiad at UCLA! NACLO is a fun contest for high school and middle school students who are interested in solving linguistic puzzles. Through these puzzles, students are introduced to the diversity and consistency of language, while exercising logic skills. Winners of NACLO are eligible to compete in the International Linguistics Olympiad. Info Session - January 11th, 2020

Students interested in participating in NACLO are encouraged to attend this info session! The Bruin Linguists Society will give a general overview of what linguistics is, followed by a practice session to help prepare for the upcoming Open Round competition. Free pizza will be provided!

Location: UCLA Powell Library Study Room A

Time: 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM (PT).

Suggested drop-off location: flagpole near Powell Library (from Hilgard Ave., turn west onto Wyton Circle toward UCLA campus. Turn left onto Charles Young Dr. East and proceed to the flagpole )

Open Round - January 23rd, 2020

The first round of NACLO is the Open Round, open to any high school and middle school students interested in competing. High scorers of the Open Round will be selected to advance to the Invitational Round.

*last day to register is noon of January 22nd*

Location: UCLA, Campbell Hall 2101K (Phonetics Seminar Room)

Time: 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM (PT). Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early before the competition begins.

Invitational Round - March 5th, 2020

The second round of NACLO is the Invitational Round, which is open to the top performers from the Open Round. From the Invitational Round, students will then be selected to join the national team and represent the United States at the international level.
